For a loving mom and dad, nothing is more precious than their kid’s health. They can go to any length to ensure safety for their child. By reading this article, as part of your research for mattresses for your kid, you have shown how much you care for your kid’s sleep, and how much concerned you are about the mattress your child should sleeps on.
So what types of mattresses are you considering? Mattresses made of natural fibers or those made with artificial stuffs, which often cause allergies? Do you base your decision on quality of material or on size, shape, and various other things?
Before going ahead with any mattress, I will recommend you to read this article to the end. It will show you what factors are important and what are not in mattress buying decision.
Factors that you should care about
Material
When buying a mattress, do not go for anything artificial. Gone are the days when mattresses made of natural fibers were either not available, or were not affordable. Now mattresses made of natural fibers are decently priced, and are widely available.
Health
You should not compromise with your kid’s health. You should buy a mattress that is made of organic and hypoallergenic materials. This is specially required if a kid is prone to any kind of allergy. Generally speaking, every kid is prone to allergies caused by dust and dust mites, as the immune system of a kid is still not fully developed. And exposure to dust and other allergenic particles may give rise to breathing problem and skin infection.
Mattresses made of artificial materials which are susceptible to dust deposit are harmful to your kid. Dust mites and germs found in home may not harm us, but for a kid whose immune system is still under development, they could present a serious health risk. Many of the skin infections and some of the breathing difficulties are caused by dust mites found in homes, particularly in bedrooms.
To counter the health risk associated with sleeping on a mattress, smart mattress manufactures have come up with organic hypoallergenic materials. A mattress made of these materials is so tightly woven that it makes it impossible for tiny dust mites to penetrate through the pores of the fabric, which saves your kid’s bed from dust mite invasion. Hypoallergenic materials keep the bed clean and hygienic, in the truest sense of the word.
Comfort
Although a kid does not have a back problem or posture-related issues, I recommend buying a mattress which is not too soft or not too hard. Buy a hypoallergenic mattress that fits the comfort level of your child. The mattress should ergonomically fit your kid’s posture.
Longevity
A mattress is not something you are going to buy every year for your child. Typically, a mattress lasts for 10 years, and this is the target usage period you should keep in your mind when shopping for a mattress for your child. The size of a mattress will depend on how old you child is, what is his or her height, and for how many years will the kid grow.
Taking a small mattress for a kid who is growing rapidly means you have to buy 2-3 mattresses (or may be four) before he turns 21. To avoid that buy a decent size mattress for your child, which he can use for years to come.
Style should be the last thing in your list while shopping for a kid’s mattress, and so should be buying a small mattress that fits him or her well. Get a decent size mattress that meets the health and comfort requirement of your kid.
No matter what size you try, I will strongly recommend buying a mattress made of natural hypoallergenic materials. For me, health of my kid’s always ranks higher than anything else, so I never go with a mattress that gives home to dust mites and deadly germs.
